Alison Coward, founder

Alison has a background in providing support to creative businesses through project management, business advice and teaching in Higher Education.  Having worked in management positions for organisations such as Hidden Art, Contemporary Applied Arts and the Enterprise Centre for the Creative Arts (ECCA) at University of the Arts London, Alison has hands-on experience of developing programme and initiatives which effectively promote development of business/enterprise skills in creative practitioners.  Her portfolio of work includes managing membership schemes and setting up systems for administration, planning training programmes, delivering workshops, organising events and panel discussions, project managing creative showcases, as well as strategic programme management, business planning and development.  Alison is a qualified Higher Education lecturer (currently teaching small business management at the London College of Fashion), a board member of Creative Capital, an organisation which promotes continuing professional development for artists, and was selected as a 2010 member of the Courvoisier The Future 500 network.

Alison is passionate about collaborative working between creative practitioners and how social media can be used to facilitate this.  In 2007, she completed an MA Enterprise and Management for the Creative Arts with distinction, addressing the question “How can online collaboration tools be used as a business support method for artists and designer-makers?”  This identified the need for a new type of agency which encouraged the use of online technologies in the creative industries, and led her to develop the concept for Bracket.
